Bagdad Mill Site Park
Bagdad Mill Site Park is the most unique addition to the Santa Rosa County Park System, being the only park of its kind in Northwest Florida. The historic site is located on the Blackwater River and a favorite for both nature lovers and recreational enthusiasts.
A Florida Heritage Site
(Right) There are over 160 newly planted trees in the park. All are native species to our area, enriching the habitat for wildlife along the Blackwater River Corridor.
Bagdad Mill Site Park offers a spectacular view of the Blackwater River and the island that was once a part of the lumber mill's operations.
Set at the foot of the fishing pier is one of 4 historic markers in Bagdad describing the historic significance of the Bagdad Lumber Mill and the Shipbuilding industry here on the Blackwater River.
Educational panels are found along the park's .45 mi path celebrating the history of Bagdad, its mill, and the flora and fauna common to the Blackwater Basin. The 22-acre park is ADA accessible and provides the comfort of picnic tables, park benches, restrooms, and potable water. It is only 1.5 miles from the I-10 corridor and is part of the Bagdad - Milton Gateway.
Three ponds play a vital role in the park's ecosystem protecting the rivers from runoff and providing wet edges for wildlife. Resident and migrating birds in the park bring attention to avid birders, some of whom are monitoring their numbers. In the lower portion of the park, a boardwalk bridges the uplands to the Kayak launch area.
The Bagdad Mill Site Kayak Launch is accessed by vehicle at the park's Cross St entrance. It features a soft launch mat, is ADA compliant, and has a shallow entry at the water's edge. Many local and traveling outdoor enthusiasts use the Bagdad Mill Site Park to embark on their recreational journey be it by foot, by wheel, or by water.
